Throughout my career I have explored how data and technology will help healthcare to become more patient- and person-centered as it shifts from volume to value. As Head of Enterprise Data and Analytics for Baylor Scott and White Health, and also at Banner Health Care I have achieved this goal by leading several mission-critical teams which deliver innovative data, technology and business solutions in support of acute, ambulatory, member, consumer, HR, financial, network, and data management strategies.
My work focuses on advancing the use of data to create predictive and prescriptive data models which identify both business and clinical opportunities. For example, my department’s efforts have identified more than $60 million in savings opportunities across surgical delivery lines and related operational and supply chain services. Additionally, using cutting-edge machine learning technology,my teams identified $150 million in care management savings within Banner’s Insurance Division.
It has always been my focus to drive innovation and change using data and technology across many areas of health care. In the integrated care setting I’ve led the development of several accountable care organizations and clinically integrated networks. As a business leader I consistently work directly with providers, leadership, government agencies, and IT professionals to define strategies to improve business and clinical outcomes, variations in care, operational efficiencies, and value-based measurement. I have been able to deliver insights which improve care models and partnership initiatives. This has positively impacted reimbursement, Stars scores, HEDIS measurement and saved lives through the proper use of enriched data across the continuum.
I constantly work to extend my scope beyond data and IT systems into the ideation, creation, and development of new business and industry-leading solutions for member and patient populations. At Baylor Scott and White I successfully led the creation of the Truveta partnership, an important data sharing and analytics network strategic effort. Similarly, my previous work with Banner University Health Plan resulted in a statewide solution for independent network provider offices who serve Arizona’s most at-risk populations. This solution aggregates and enriches multiple disparate data sources so care providers and emergency crisis workers can find vital longitudinal care information immediately. This system allows patients to access care and behavioral health services immediately, reducing access time from weeks to minutes. The information in this system combined with improved administrative workflows allows providers at all levels to make rapid, informed continuity-based decisions resulting in saved lives, improved care, and reduced operational costs.
As a leader, I have experienced building high performance business models, operations and large data teams across every area in healthcare, including implementing electronic health records, running claims and administrative systems, and creating artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions which improve clinical process models. Using a proactive and agile approach, my leadership style empowers teams to realize their unique vision for their respective departments.
